"I had a notebook from college where I would break down the script," she says. Having directed plays at the University of Pennsylvania, Banks says she knew she could do it. When the original director left, Banks stepped in to direct "Pitch Perfect 2". One of the smart career moves Banks made during the course of the "Hunger Games" series was to produce the first "Pitch Perfect" movie - the musical comedy about a college a cappella singing competition that earned a surprise $117 million at the box office. Her eyes are opened by her friendship with Katniss and Peeta. She represents the wrong side of history, like the Nazis, the slave owners and the opponents of gay marriage. "The series is really about the districts and the buildup to war," Banks says. The actress appreciates that for the moviegoer, Effie represents - along with President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland - the Capitol, the seat of government for Panem, the futuristic dystopian country of the films, with all its cluelessness, cruelty and excess. Trinket, the escort of some tributes (contestants) in the games, including the heroine, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence), doesn't even appear in the last of the original Suzanne Collins books, so including her in the final two movies speaks to the popularity of Banks' character. The last of the four hit movies, "Mockingjay - Part 2," grossed $101 million in its first weekend. "She became so much more than I imagined.
