![]() It IS recommended to at least use different colours for the PV and 12V circuits. So you can now have one colour for your PV panel’s plugs, another for your main power line, another colour for your compressor if you so wish. BUT, the inner space between the + and – have different ridges, thus they are used “per colour”. They all look the same, and have the same physical dimensions. Today we have easy access to at least four different BH plugs, ie Grey, Blue, Red and Yellow. And here is another area where the technology, and availability of components, has improved since the original thread. ![]() We opted to end with a Brad Harison (BH) in the boot space. It takes a few minutes to run the cables along the door sills to the back. (just be carefull to not bend a clip and then brake it when you put the panel back). Dolf, the SUV owner, was a bit surprized to see just how easy the plastic panels along the door lines can be removed – it merely clips out. Nice big grommet here, handy to get cables into the vehicle. With the SUV we opted to enter the vehicle at the fire wall, just behind the cubbie-hole. IF you want to power devices directly from this line, you would have to check the fuse rating and the cable thickness based on your use.įor a bakkie it is common practice to run the cables underneath the vehicle to get to the back – exposing the cables to physical damage. This cable was to supply a dc-2-dc charger with a 20A limit, thus a 30A fuse would have been sufficient but the smallest NL we could get was 50A. We started with a 50A NL fuse at the battery in the engine bay. (as this follows on from the original electrickery posts I wont be going into the detail of why specific thicknesses were chosen) We used 10mm 2 wire from the front to the back. Thus we needed to get the power from the alternator to the inside of the back of the vehicle. This project was based on a SUV, with the battery and fridge inside the vehicle. For the sake of the clarity I will explain the process from the “front”. So where do you start with a project like this ? As with all projects, break it down to its core bits and deal with each “bit”, and the pieces of the puzzle comes together. – And lots of wire, lugs, shrink wrap, etc etc ….Īnd before long you have a table full of “bits” – – Some sort of “distribution box” (DB) so that you have save access to the power – Something to charge the battery with …. Here are some of the things that your ideal battery box may include : ![]() So what is a “battery box” ? Well, a bit more than a plastic box to hold a battery …. People’s expectations, requirements and demands move on. Nothing new about this, afterall, National Luna (NL) have been selling battery boxes for decades.īut technology moves on. ![]() There are however many people out there for whom their holiday vehicle is also a daily driver and they need a mobile solution. The original posts concentrated (unintentionally) on a camper setup with a battery built into the vehicle. And here is the next episode of the electrickery thread – High self-consumption and self-sufficiency rates.Who knew these two words could lead to SO many questions.Simultaneous supply of loads and charging of battery in the event of a power outage. To get the most out of your BYD battery, we recommend combining it with a Fronius inverter such as the GEN24, so that you can enjoy features such as: Thanks to its modular systems, the BYD Battery Box can easily have additional units added, in order to scale it to whatever your energy needs may be, you can even connect multiple Battery Boxes together to operate as a single unit, allowing for the ultimate in energy storage.ĭesigned using cobalt-free Lithium Iron Phosphate, and a Patented Modular Plug Design which requires no internal wiring, the Battery Box Premium offers excellent lifelong safety, as well as high levels of power throughout its impressive lifespan. This allows for the high amounts of energy that air conditioners and other systems that use electric motors need to get started, and it is something that most solar energy storage systems are unable to provide. One of the Battery Box's defining features is its impressive peak output, able to double its continuous power supply output (which in itself is impressive, being equal to the system's nominal storage capacity, far higher than most batteries), for up to three minutes. Able to offer storage capacities from 5.1 kWh all the way up to 22.1 kWh, whatever your home's energy needs, the battery box can accommodate them. BYD's solar energy storage system, the Battery Box Premium comes in two types, the HVS and the HVM, between the pair, they are able to offer a variety of energy capacities, thanks to the battery boxes modular design.
